About the Artists:

French Artist

Biography:

Born in 1960 in Brittany, France, Hervé Lenouvel spent his formative years immersed in the bucolic

landscapes near the forest of Brocéliande. Drawing inspiration from his rural upbringing,

he cultivated a deep affinity for art from a young age, initially exploring drawing before

transitioning to painting. Nature, with its profound and almost spiritual allure, became his

lifelong muse and primary source of inspiration.

A self-taught artist, Hervé delved into various painting techniques, experimenting with

watercolour and gouache before finding his true artistic voice in oil paint. The medium's

viscosity provided him with a tactile richness that resonated deeply, leading him to

explore its expressive potential with fervor.

Initially gravitating towards a figurative style, Hervé gradually embraced a more intuitive

approach, crafting a suggestive visual language that flirted with abstraction. Despite being

labeled an abstract painter, he maintains a strong connection to figuration, as his subjects

are inherently tied to the natural world.

Nature continues to exert an inexhaustible influence on Hervé's work, offering boundless

vistas of inspiration. Each day, he embarks on contemplative walks, imprinting the

landscapes upon his mind and drawing from the myriad sensations they evoke – the play

of light and shadow, the whisper of the wind, the scent of rain-drenched earth.

In his studio, Hervé channels these impressions into his canvases with a sense of

immediacy, distilling them to their essence. His painting process is akin to a dialogue with

the canvas, a dance of observation, memory, and emotion. For him, painting transcends

mere technical skill; it is an intimate exploration of self-expression and personal discovery.

Central to Hervé's artistic vision is chromatic harmony. Colour, with its emotive power and

expressive potential, guides his hand across the canvas.

Today, Hervé Lenouvel continues to reside and create in Brittany, his works celebrated

across galleries in France, England, Canada, and the USA. Through his vibrant canvases,

he invites viewers to embark on a journey of contemplation and discovery, where the

beauty of the natural world unfolds in vibrant hues and evocative forms.
