Born in 1966, Sawyer is a local artist and native of Carmel, CA. Like many artists, since a child he has been fascinated by art, color and design. Having taken courses in Visual Arts while attending UC San Diego, he furthered his knowledge and deepened his interest around creating art.
After painting for several years and experimenting with different styles and mediums, Sawyer found his passion in painting abstract art. He is drawn to abstract art as it allows freedom of expression and full use of creativity. Particularly appealing to him is that abstract art allows one to think outside of the box, and to create a unique one-of-a-kind subject matter that has never been seen before.
The exploration and discovery process while painting abstract drives him and he finds it very rewarding. As he says, “For me creating an abstract painting is a journey often uncertain of the final destination, however I always have fun discovering along the way.”
Sawyer has been inspired and influenced most notably by the works of the most acclaimed contemporary abstract artist, Gerhard Richter. The first time he saw his paintings many years ago, Sawyer was mesmerized by the feel his paintings created due to Richter’s innovative use of color, texture, form, and unique abstract style.
Zantman’s is proud to present the paintings of this talented artist.
