“I love to paint as much as I love to sing,” Bennett told the Associated Press in 2006, describing painting as “a big lift” that allowed him to “stay in this creative zone all the time.”
Tony Bennet began his formal training as an art student at the School of Industrial Arts, now known as the School of Art and Design in Manhattan. Through the years he continued his studies with private teachers.
Among the many notable collectors of his original paintings include Bill Clinton, Carol Burnett, Whoopi Goldberg, Frank Sinatra, Oprah Winfrey, Mickey Rooney, and Katie Couric.
His work as a painter has been featured in several art publications including a cover story in Art and Antiques, Artnews, Infomart, The Artist’s Magazine, and International Artist Magazine. He has participated and exhibited his works as part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s lecture series. One of his oil paintings is housed in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
