E. John Robinson was born on April 14, 1932 in Grants Pass, Oregon. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California and his Master's degree from San Francisco State College in San Francisco, California.
He taught in the public school system for 12 years before becoming a full-time artist. During his art career, he painted over 4,000 seascapes and
had 30 one-man shows since he began painting.
Many of his marine paintings now belong to private collections and galleries throughout the United States. He created the cover for four Readers Digest issues, including that of October 1976. He wrote instructional books and produced a series of bestselling videos.
Robinson lived for 40 years in Mendocino, California, where he died at home, November 18, 2008.
