Born in Toledo, Ohio Marilyn Simandle was raised in the Bay Area. She began painting at the age of six, encouraged by her mother who was also an artist. Marilyn received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from San Jose State University.
Since then, Marilyn has had over 62 one-woman shows and is a member of Plein Air Painters of America. She has been innumerous National Watercolor Society and American Watercolor Society shows and is the winner of many awards and medals. Including the distinction of twice winning the “High Winds Medal”. With her movement into oils, one may expect an entire new venue of awards to be forthcoming.
Marilyn has been published in numerous national art magazines, enjoys teaching workshops and meeting her public.
Her work in oils or watercolor has a vibrance and light-play which is very arresting and her use of warm and cool colors juxtaposed gives an electric quality to her work. Her execution of her subject matter, be it florals or landscapes, has technical perfection while retaining an Impressionist spontaneity.
