Award winning artist Pashk Pervathi

Pashk Pervathi was born in 1958 in the village of Manati near the city of Lezhe in Albania. He has since developed his childhood passion for painting. After completing courses at the Art Academy in Tirana, he worked as an art teacher and painted landscapes.

At 21, he exhibited his painting "Fall in Manatia", along with the most famous painters in Albania. In 1983, he opened his first personal exhibition.

Pashk studied monumental painting at the Arts Academy in Tirana from 1986 until 1990, meanwhile continuing his landscape painting and participating in several national exhibits.

Since 1990, he has attended several national and international events and was named the director of the Lezha Art Gallery and member of the National Council for Radio and Television (1999 - 2004). Pervathi has sold 620 paintings - 130 of them to foreign collectors - including his original landscape, “Autumn in Manati". It is now display at the Museum of Art and History of the city of Ceuta in Spain.

In 2002, he created a series of paintings for the Church of Saint Paul, in Detroit, Michigan (U.S.A.).

In December 2006, President of Albania decorated Mr. Pervathi with the Golden award "Naim Frasheri".

He is the winner of the National Award "Abdurrahim Buza" 2010, and winner of "CULT" award, granted by the CULT Academy as the visual artist of the year in 2011.

In 2014 Pashk won Best of Show award at the Gursel Sulejmani juried show dedicated to the Kosovan Independence.

In 2016 the President of Albania Republic gave him the highest award of the land, the Grand Master medal.

Pashk had 35 solo exhibitions both in Albania and abroad. He has also participated in numerous group shows in Albania and throughout Europe.

Artist’s statement:

“My name is Pashk Pervathi. I currently live in Lezha, a small city with a population of approximately 30,000 people in northern Albania. I enjoy living in Lezha, a 2400 year old city with a rich and honorable history. It was once the most fortified city in Albania and its ancient walls still stand today. It is envied for its geographic location with a river that winds through the mountains and empties into the sea. It’s often described as a city with “Mediterranean lights”

My desire to paint goes back to my childhood. I was attracted to painting when I was little. I was only seven years old when I posed for a painter who was visiting my father. Many times I tried to reproduce that portrait. Whether I wanted it or not, painting became a part of my life. I attended the high school of art and later majored in painting at the Art Academy in Tirana, the capital of Albania.

The paintings displayed on this site are part of my studio collection in Lezha. These works originated in 1984. Initially my work was directed toward impressionist style paintings; however, after the year 2000, I leaned toward more decorative, conventional, and particularly symbolic works.

At the beginning of my career, my preferred motifs were autumn and landscapes. Horses, boats, and stones are now my favorite subjects.
